The inadequate road corridor from Kenya's port city Mombasa, via Nairobi and the Ethiopian highlands to Addis Ababa is to be upgraded. The heavily used road corridor forms part of the large Cape to Cairo Trans-African Highway to be established.
In the 1990s, corrupt officials in Nigeria looted and exported at least US$ 2.2 billion, and embezzled US$ 5.5 billion. Similarly, it is estimated that over US$ 3 billion has been lost to corruption in Kenya.
While most telecom providers in Kenya earlier this week protested the government's decision to dissolve the Communications Commission of Kenya's (CCK) board of directors, one company today congratulated the move. The old board "had degenerated into a corrupt and self-serving institution for the individual members," the company states.
